Pre-Session: Subdued start likely for Sensex, Nifty today

The Indian stock market is expected to open on a cautious note as trends on SGX Nifty indicate a flat opening for the broader index in India with a gain of 26 points.

The members of the monetary policy committee (MPC) of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) indicated more interest rate hike in the coming months to tackle rising inflation, minutes of the June policy review released on Wednesday showed.

In this backdrop, the markets may continue to be range-bound today, while investors will also track prices of oil and other key commodities.

Among stocks, Bajaj Auto will be in focus after the company said it would meet on Monday to further deliberate of the previously deferred share buyback plan.

On Wednesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 51822.53 down by -709.54 points or by -1.35 % and then NSE Nifty was at 15413.3 down by -225.5 points or by -1.44 %.

On the global front, Major US stock indexes ended down slightly Wednesday, losing early gains tied to remarks by Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell that the US central bank is "strongly committed" to bringing down inflation, while sharply lower oil prices weighed on energy shares.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 47.12 points, or 0.15%, to 30,483.13, the S&P 500 lost 4.9 points, or 0.13%, to 3,759.89 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 16.22 points, or 0.15%, to 11,053.08.

Shares in the Asia-Pacific were higher on Thursday as investors continued to monitor recession concerns. The Nikkei 225 in Japan rose 0.69%, and the Topix gained 0.58%. South Korea’s Kospi was advanced 0.64%, and the Kosdaq added 0.42%%.

In Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 was 0.48% higher. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan gained 0.41%.

Total numbers of contracts for index options were 132228043 with a total turnover of Rs. 10590861.54 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 3193865 with a total turnover of Rs. 194194.81 Crore.

The FIIs on 22/06/2022 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 5406.25 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 510.50 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 6583.48 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 260.39 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -1177.23 Crore and Rs. 250.11
