Markets under pressure; IT, Pharma stocks gain

Domestic equity benchmark Sensex was trading in red on Thursday led by losses in financial stocks after the US Federal Reserve highlighted the uncertainty surrounding economic recovery.

Meanwhile, exchange data showed that foreign institutional investors bought equities worth Rs 264.66 crore on a net basis on Wednesday.

According to traders, domestic equities opened on a negative note tracking weak cues from global markets after the US Federal Reserve hinted at the key policy interest rate staying close to zero at least through 2023 without unveiling any additional stimulus plans.

At 10:25 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 39185.03 down by -117.82 points or by -0.3 % and then NSE Nifty was at 11567.1 down by -37.45 points or by -0.32 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 39208.21 and intraday low of 39022.34 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 11579.95 and intraday low of 11520.5

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 810.60,+2.69%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 807.15,+1.91%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1013.70,+1.26%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 73.65,+0.75%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2028.40,+0.69%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 169.20,-1.57%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2997.35,-1.32%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 370.20,-1.21%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 911.30,-1.16%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 178.60,-1.13%), among others.

Among the sectors, TECk index was at 9408.31 up by 57.28 points or by 0.61%. MphasiS Ltd. (Rs. 1356.00,+4.38%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 810.60,+2.69%), Coforge Ltd. (Rs. 2232.75,+2.43%), Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (Rs. 221.00,+2.34%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 807.15,+1.91%),.

Realty index was at 1773 down by -17.94 points or by -1%. Prestige Estates Projects Ltd. (Rs. 258.75,-2.32%), Indiabulls Real Estate Ltd. (Rs. 59.35,-2.06%), DLF Ltd. (Rs. 160.30,-1.90%), Mahindra Lifespace Developers Ltd. (Rs. 250.85,-1.32%), Brigade Enterprises Ltd. (Rs. 167.60,-1.30%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2328 , shares advanced were 1026 while 1161 shares declined and 141 were unchanged.
